If you’ve gone through trauma, there’s great healing potential in your unprocessed emotions, and their processing can be a doorway to aliveness, wholeness and empowerment.

 

If you experience anxiety, panic attacks, cPTSD or depression, these are a few ways your body is telling you it has a hard time processing emotions.

This is often a result of trauma when your body had to protect itself from overwhelm.

But this protection now works overtime that stops you from processing emotions and your body from recovering after trauma. 

Emotional processing is an innate healing mechanism that helps your body naturally metabolise emotions, and return to balance and regulation. It’s a genius mechanism that's necessary for the good functioning of your health – emotional, mental, and physical.

Your body has a capacity for it, even if it's not activated or fully developed yet.

Emotional processing requires a body-mind approach because...

  • Your emotions are real hormonal, chemical, energetic and somatic events in your physiology (which is why they’re not ‘just in your head’)

  • Your emotional overwhelm isn’t caused by your emotions – it’s caused by how your body has learnt to interpret and relate to emotions

  • You can 'teach' your body to feel safe and relatively calm even in the presence of emotional dysregulation and heavier emotions, such as anger, sadness and shame

  • Emotional processing requires that we reconnect with our bodies and process our trauma, not only cognitively, but also somatically

About your Teacher

 

Effie Kli is a trauma-trained somatic coach and educator with over 1,200 hours of somatic, nervous system and trauma training, combined with client work privately and in groups. Her holistic approach is informed by science-backed psychology and neuroscience, by the understanding that body and mind are one system, and by what she sees her clients benefit from as she supports them with the processing of trauma and repressed emotions stored in their bodies.

For two decades she lived with cPTSD and anxiety, and one thing she's seen proven inside her practice and through her own personal change is that our body always guides us towards healing. 

In her work and teachings, Effie is not interested in pathologising symptoms and pain because she knows that symptoms and pain are our body's way of talking to us. Instead of shaming those experiences, a paradigm shift of healing is to learn to apply compassionate curiosity and learn to speak our body's language so that trauma gets resolved sustainably.
